Ebert Huaman Villegas is a young and committed coffee producer hailing from Salinas, a village located in the San Jose de Lourdes District within the San Ignacio Province of the Cajamarca Region. He is gaining recognition for the quality of his coffee and his expertise in Peru, having achieved 6th place in the regional competition Expo Cajamarca in 2022 and 18th place in the Cup of Excellence in 2023. Ebert and his family operate under the name Finca Artemira, a tribute to Ebert’s mother, and have been in operation for over four decades, recently expanding their activities under Ebert’s guidance. They cultivate a variety of coffee types along with other crops to sustain their livelihood, employing regenerative agricultural practices through coffee agroforestry systems, and continuously experimenting with cultivation methods and processes. The family is firmly dedicated to sustainable and respectful farming practices, emphasising agroforestry systems, soil regeneration, and biodiversity enhancement. Although their coffee is not officially certified as organic due to financial limitations, they refrain from using synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, adhering to organic principles. Their farming philosophy is deeply entrenched in tradition and education, with the goal of producing high-quality coffee while caring for their land and community.
